CARITAS creates a safe space to heal and time to rebuild. Our five programs provide solutions for shelter recovery services workforce development and the furniture bank.
The CARITAS Emergency Shelter as of the five programs of this thriving non-profit provides compassionate hospitality to those experiencing homelessness in our region. Services are offered to both men and women on our Richmond campuses and basic needs such as shelter meals clothing and connections to supportive services are provided. We take an integrated approach to helping people solve their housing crisis by connecting them with a housing specialist. This position provides supervision and guidance in the shelter environment and works alongside housing specialists volunteers and other CARITAS staff.
Position Summary:
The Shelter Program Administrator is responsible for shelter program activities
coordination of volunteers and interns scheduling and assisting the shelter staff as
needed. They will empower a community of compassionate care in our low-barrier
shelter through modeling empathy and trauma-informed practices and supporting the
shelters daily operations and activities. The following responsibilities apply to the mens
site womens site and seasonal Surge Shelter.
- Schedules shelter support staff and manages the payroll approval process.
- Schedules and oversees community engagement activities.
- Coordinates program activities with community partners volunteers interns and
special events. - Assists with management and compliance of the Homeless Management
Information System and paper files. - Supports frontline staff with data entry.
- Participates in the on-call schedule.
- Fills in for Program Manager as needed.
- Fills in for shelter staff as needed.
- Participates in shelter leadership meetings as needed.
- Participates in House meetings.
- Retains the ability to move between program sites.
Qualifications:
- Excellent oral and written communication
- Extensive attention to detail and time management skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently
- Ability to use Microsoft Word and Google Suite; experience with data collection and reporting
- Knowledge of homeless services in Richmond and other community resources.
- Experience and comfort working with individuals with serious mental illness with a trauma-informed lens.
- Knowledge of real estate Fair Housing Act Landlord-Tenant Act and Americans with Disabilities Act a plus.
- Training in de-escalation trauma-informed care and person-centered practices.
- Supervisory experience is preferred
- Bachelors degree preferred or in exchange of years of experience in Homelessness/Community Services
- Capacity to hold compassion confidentiality and professional boundaries including know-how and talent to come alongside individuals with high needs.
- Valid T.B. test within 2 weeks of being hired.
- Current CPR and naloxone certification required within 1 month of being hired.
Status: This full-time exempt position

Hours: 40 hours; 12pm-8pm M-F (Ability to flex as needed)
Location: Mens Shelter: 700 Dinwiddie Avenue; Womens Shelter: 2220 Stockton Street Richmond VA 23224
