DescriptionOglethorpe University Atlantas leading private liberal arts university is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join the Finance Office. This position supports a variety of general accounting functions including accounts receivable cash management accounts payable month-end close activities and audit preparation. The Staff Accountant works collaboratively with departments across campus to support financial operations and ensure accuracy and compliance in financial reporting.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support billing and receivable processes to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions and related systems.
- Research and resolve discrepancies in account balances including tuition charges fees and payment activity.
- Support cash receipt activities for the University including posting and analysis of student payments gifts and other receipts.
- Support accounts payable processes to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions and related records.
- Assist with month-end and fiscal year-end close processes including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Assist with the preparation and coordination of financial and operational reporting for internal stakeholders and external agencies.
- Collaborate with departments across campus to address financial inquiries and support accurate and timely reporting.
- Support internal control procedures and assist in identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and strengthen financial processes.
- Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or a related field preferred and two to four years of progressively responsible accounting experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with Sage Intacct and/or a student information system such as Ellucian Colleague preferred.
- Experience in nonprofit or higher-education accounting is a plus.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including the ability to analyze and manipulate financial data.
- Strong working knowledge of accounting and reporting systems and enterprise database applications.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Excellent customer service organization and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain confidential information and exercise sound judgment.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
