Job Summary

A seasoned Technical Architect is needed to lead from the front. As the embedded lead and hands-on engineer you will drive innovation and technical excellence within a dynamic cross-functional Operations team. Focused on the ticketing and loyalty verticals youll shape architecture influence strategic decisions and deliver impactful solutions that elevate our platform to new heights.

What Youll Own:

Technical Architecture & Engineering Leadership.
- Own end-to-end technical architecture for the ticketing and loyalty verticals including backend microservices integration patterns and Azure infrastructure.
- Drive architectural improvements in two Tier-0 / critical services the Ticketing microservice (Ticketmaster integration hub) and the Loyalty microservice (PlayFab-backed Wave Makers program; Kafka-driven event pipeline).
- Establish and enforce technical standards: hexagonal architecture adherence API design error handling patterns resilience (circuit breakers DLQ idempotency) and observability.
- Lead resolution of critical and high-priority findings from existing technical assessments including missing circuit breakers on Ticketmaster API integrations Kafka exception swallowing missing rate limiting and hardcoded credential remediation
- Collaborate directly with the VP of Technology Engineering Leads DevOps and QA to align delivery priorities and integration touch points.
Hands-On Backend Development.
- Write production-grade Java/ Spring Boot code this is not a PowerPoint architect role.
- Work across the full backend stack: REST API design Kafka producers/consumers Cosmos DB and PostgreSQL data modeling Redis caching strategies and Azure service integrations (App Configuration Key Vault Application Insights).
- Drive implementation of patterns identified as gaps: Resilience4j circuit breakers dead-letter queues idempotent Kafka consumers TestContainers-based integration tests and rate limiting for event-day burst traffic.
- Contribute to or review Azure DevOps CI/CD pipeline improvements (branch strategy quality gates release pipeline hardening).
Team Leadership.
- Lead and mentor a small cross-functional team of software engineers (backend mobile).
- Run sprint planning technical reviews and architecture decision records (ADRs).
- Define and own the teams Definition of Done code review standards and testing expectations.
- Act as the primary OP technical interface to the engineering team.
AI-Augmented Development.
- Champion AI-assisted development practices within the team including the use of Claude Code GitHub Copilot or similar tools to accelerate development velocity and code quality.
- Contribute to or lead the definition of an AI framework reference implementation for the engagement: context files PR review automation and AI-assisted test generation.
- Evaluate and apply AI tooling pragmatically not for show but to measurably reduce cycle time on tickets test coverage gaps and code review overhead.

Required Skills & Experience:

Core:
- 10 years of software engineering experience; 3 years in a hands-on technical architect or lead engineer role.
- Deep expertise in Java and Spring Boot including Domain Driven Design and CQRS architecture patterns.
- Strong working knowledge of Apache Kafka producer/consumer patterns idempotency DLQ event-driven design.
- Proficiency with Azure cloud services: Cosmos DB PostgreSQL (Azure) Redis App Configuration Key Vault Application. Insights Azure DevOps Pipelines.
- Experience integrating with complex third-party APIs and SDKs under strict reliability constraints (circuit breakers retry/backoff timeout budgets).
- Comfortable working in large legacy-adjacent codebases with real production stakes.
Architecture & Process:
- Strong grasp of domain-driven design (DDD) hexagonal/ports-and-adapters architecture.
- Demonstrated experience with resilience patterns: Resilience4j (or equivalent) bulkhead circuit breaker fallback.
- Experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps including quality gate definition branch strategies and release management.
- Familiarity with observability tooling Datadog Azure Application Insights structured logging.
Leadership:
- Experience leading small cross-functional engineering teams (3 8 engineers).
- Ability to communicate clearly with both technical teams and non-technical business stakeholders.
- Comfortable working in ambiguous high-stakes environments with real event-day operational pressure.

Nice to Have:

Experience with Ticketmaster / Archtics API integrations or large-scale ticketing systems.
Familiarity with Microsoft PlayFab or other gaming/loyalty backend platforms.
Experience with iOS/Android mobile development or leading teams that include mobile engineers.
Prior work in sports entertainment or venue technology.
Hands-on experience with AI code assistant tools (Claude Code GitHub Copilot) in a production team setting.
Experience running AI-assisted PR review or test generation pipelines in Azure DevOps.
