Description
Project Engineers work as part of a multi-discipline team performing structural engineering design during all phases of multiple simultaneous projects. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature with Engineers and Architects. Work includes a wide range of moderately complex duties under general guidance and limited supervision from Senior Professionals. Independent judgment is required on work details. Assignments will include performing design calculations interpreting and preparing reports and producing deliverable drawing sets including foundation plans framing plans details and schedules.
Job Responsibilities
- Establishes designs and specifies project-appropriate structural engineering requirements.
- Plans and directs the work of Structural EITs and Designers.
- Independently attends client meetings and communicates with clients consultants contractors and others during various stages of project development.
- Leads the execution of site investigations and observations.
- Prepares narratives reports calculations drawing and specification documents in accordance with a high degree of quality yet with regard to project schedule and budget constraints.
- Performs cross-discipline discussions and coordination.
- Assists with reviews of structural engineering documents for quality and compliance with code and program requirements.
- Participates in Construction Administration by reviewing shop drawings and submittals responding to RFIs solving construction issues and performing site visits to assess general conformance with the design concept.
- Mentors and encourages the development of junior professionals and designers.
- Assists with marketing and business development activities including building relationship with key clients and strategic partners proposal writing fee estimates and client interviews.
- Travel for marketing and project-related activities will be required.
Requirements
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Architectural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis
- Professional Engineer License (PE)
- Minimum 7 years experience in structural engineering on a wide variety of projects within the A/E industry
- Demonstrated practical knowledge of codes and related industry standards (ACI AISC NDS ASCE etc.) with the ability to apply them to real-world multidisciplinary projects
- Production experience preparing deliverable drawing sets in Revit Structure
- Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency using RISA 2d and 3d and the RAM and PCA suite of programs
- Self-motivated team player with strong interpersonal communication writing and presentation skills
- Ability to deal with competing priorities and manage time appropriately
Preferred Education & Experience
- Experience estimating hours budgets and developing fee proposals for structural engineering work
- Strong knowledge of project management fundamentals
