Job Summary
The Providence College Summer Nursing Academy is an initiative designed to support the nursing workforce in Massachusetts while providing nursing students from Providence College with valuable in-hospital experience. Participants will have the opportunity to enhance their clinical skills by working as nursing assistants.Qualifications
Positions are available forstudents as aPatient Care Assistant (PCA)ina specialty areasof Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) for eligible student nurses from theProvidence College Nursing Academyand theProvidence College Nursingprogram in Rhode Island.
This position is open to Providence College nursing students who have successfully completed their sophomore year including at least one clinical rotation.
During the summer program students will work 36 hours per week while completing unit orientation.
At the end of the program students that choose to stay on staff as PCA are expected to meet unit per diem needs throughout the 2026-2027 academic year.
Participating units include:
Blake 7 Medical - ICU
Ellison 9 Cardiac - ICU
White 8 - Inpatient Medical unit
MGH Operating room - OR Assistant
What are we looking for
We are seeking individuals who are passionate about healthcare and have a strong desire to make a difference in the lives of others. The ideal candidate for this role should possess the following qualifications:
Assisting patients with daily living basic hygiene needs (such as bathing dressing basic and eating) monitoring vital by taking patients temperature pulse and respiration as well as drawing blood and acquiring EKGs.
Performs vital signs weights/heights intakes and outputs with accuracy and within established time frame and/or as requested.
Responding to patient requests in a timely manner while safeguarding patient confidentiality and ensuring patient safety.
Communicating with patients and their families in a respectful and compassionate manner.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Strong patient/customer service skills.
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
Proficient computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.
