What do you offer
The Transitional Housing Program operates 24 hours per day seven days per week and provides programs and services primarily to Newcomers to Canada and for those with Affordable / Social Housing needs.
The Team Supervisors will support the Manager Transitional Housing Services in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Transitional Housing Program which is staffed by Case Managers and Housing Support Workers and will help lead the Housing Services team in providing excellent service delivery. The Team Supervisors will work with the Manager Transitional Housing Services and the Associate Vice President to achieve strategic goals in the fulfillment of the mission of the National Capital Region YMCA.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a personal commitment to and understanding of the Ys mission vision values and participant outcomes.
Some of the tasks of this position include:
- In conjunction with the Manager Transitional Housing Services the Team Supervisors will participate in the recruitment and training of all Housing Office Staff and provide supervision and evaluation of staff as per Y Personnel Policy
- Ensure adequate levels of scheduled staff coverage to meet program and contractual requirements
- Provide leadership to the Transitional Housing Program team to ensure effective service delivery and attainment of operating and licensing standards
- Monitor standards for reporting and operating procedures
- Provide information and pertinent statistics to the Manager Transitional Housing Services and Associate Vice President Housing Services for the purposes of evaluations and reporting
- Prepare reports as required
- Assist in the development of appropriate programs and procedures to ensure excellent client service delivery
- Assist in the development of proposals and budgets as required
- Ensure effective and efficient use of the resources
- Actively network and liaise with community agencies and service partners
- The Housing Team Supervisors are in frequent and direct contact with Staff Volunteers program participants City of Ottawa Offsite Services and Community Partner agencies
- The Housing Team Supervisors are tasked with sharing knowledge and instruction in a way that motivates others
What qualifications and abilities are we looking for

Education
- College or University degree in a related field
Language
- Fluency in both English and French oral and written preferred
- Other languages an asset
Experience Abilities & Skills
- Minimum of three years experience in the housing field preferred emergency housing in particular
- Experience in a supervisory role preferred
- Experience working with newcomers to Canada preferred
- Knowledge understanding and experience in working with a vulnerable population
- Extensive knowledge of community resources
- Strong Computer Proficiency
- Demonstrates leadership and excellent communication skills
- Demonstrate knowledge and ability to communicate Y values and mission
- Ability to work with clients with diverse needs backgrounds and skills
- This position has a strong client focus and service orientation
Additional Requirements
- Applicant must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
- Criminal Reference Check for the Vulnerable Sector not more than 6 months old is required
- Annually all staff must complete the mandatory training for Protecting Children Youth and Vulnerable Persons and submit the certificate of completion.
