Job Description

University of Nevada Reno Extension is seeking a detail-oriented and community-focused Temporary Hourly Clerical Assistant to support the Radon Education Program in Reno NV. This position contributes to statewide outreach and education efforts that help Nevada communities understand radon risks and take action to protect their health.

As part of a land-grant university system Extension connects research-based knowledge with practical solutions that improve lives. The Radon Education Program delivers science-based education resources and community programming across Nevada.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Program Manager this position provides administrative outreach and communications support to ensure effective coordination of radon education classes stakeholder engagement and program data tracking.

This is a part-time (approximately 20 hours per week) temporary hourly position at $20.00 per hour.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide general administrative support to the Radon Education Program Manager
  • Collect organize and track program data and outreach metrics
  • Conduct outreach to community partners to schedule radon education classes and events
  • Update and maintain radon maps statistics and reporting tools
  • Assist with website updates and content management
  • Respond professionally to phone and email inquiries from stakeholders and the public
  • Compile articles updates and images for quarterly newsletters
  • Update fact sheets and educational materials
  • Prepare and ship class materials to event locations statewide
  • Represent the Radon Education Program at community outreach events such as health fairs field days and educational workshops which may include staffing informational tables and engaging with the public

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word Excel Outlook)
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines independently
  • Professional communication skills when interacting with community members

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in administrative support community outreach or public health programs
  • Experience tracking and compiling data
  • Familiarity with website content management systems (e.g. WordPress or similar platforms)
  • Experience preparing newsletters or communication materials
  • Experience working with community-based or educational programs

Work Environment

Work is performed in both office and community settings. Occasional local travel may be required. Outreach events may involve standing for extended periods and transporting or setting up light program materials.

Work Schedule

Approximately 20 hours per week. Schedule may be flexible based on program needs. This position will include occasional participation in community outreach events which may occur during evenings or weekends and may require working outside of a traditional office setting.
