Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for an experienced Livestock Regional Manager for our Animal Services Division; the position will be responsible for the Central Region of Arizona. This position requires the successful candidate to be AZPOST certified and have livestock experience.

Under direction from the Animal Services Associate Director the successful candidate will perform a wide variety of duties relating to livestock management and supervision of Animal Health Inspectors and Animal Health Officers.

Job Duties:

Duties to include but not limited to:

Inspect brands to determine and verify livestock ownership; investigate incidents and reports of livestock theft; investigate incidents and reports of animal cruelty and animal neglect; monitor movement of livestock both intrastate and interstate.
Educate the public about livestock production and livestock issues.
You will also be required to represent the state and act as a buffer between livestock owners and producers; enforce A.R.S. Title 3 Chapters 4 11 12 and 13 (approximately 125 statutory provisions); enforce A.R.S. Title 13-2910 relating to animal cruelty and enforce A.A.C. Title 3 Chapter 2 (approximately 50 rules).
Perform administrative and record-keeping duties and prepare reports of investigations.
Collect fees and deposit monies on a weekly basis.
The successful candidate will handle performance reviews leave request and disciplinary issues of supervised personnel.
You will be required to directly or indirectly support and participate in emergency responses involving livestock.
Act as liaison to county fair boards county extension personnel county emergency management agencies and local veterinary practitioners for animal health monitoring and emergency preparedness activities.
You will be required to maintain Arizona Post certification including firearms qualification.
Drive a state owned truck and trailer.
Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
Federal/State laws rules regulations policies procedures and practices regarding livestock; Basic animal nutrition husbandry and health; Report writing; Effective investigation; supervision.

Basic computer and software programs; Verbal and written communication; Maintaining composure in stressful situations; Investigations and report writing; Maintaining confidential working relationships; Decision making; time management/delegation; Motivating coaching and evaluating employee performance.

Organize/prioritize work load; Drive truck towing trailer; Handle livestock safely; Think analytically and solve routine problems; Communicate tactfully with those involved in the livestock industry; Apply interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers stakeholders and the general public; Submit required paperwork in a timely manner; Interpret body language of victims and suspects when conducting interview and investigations. Manage and lead effectively; Communicate with various external/internal customers; Listen and understand information being read and or provided; Clearly understand/relate information essential to getting the job done and/or meeting goals; Tactful use of written/verbal communication; Remain calm and even tempered under demanding working conditions; Prioritize work assignments for self/and or staff; Training and coaching.

Retirement:

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Mandatory condition of Employment for all employees who meet the eligibility and membership criteria defined in statue. Current contribution rate is 12.00%. Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
