Position Overview

Housed in the Department of Psychology the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology is designed to provide multicultural evidence-based student-centered training in counseling psychology with a specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. The program has two optional concentration areas: (1) Addictions Counseling and (2) Research. The mission of the program is to prepare students to help meet the mental health service needs of the diverse and multicultural populations in Hawaii and beyond. The program is designed to train students to become knowledgeable skillful ethical and reflective mental health counselors and to serve as a foundation for students interested in pursuing advanced graduate studies.

This tenure-track position is responsible for teaching courses in Addictions Counseling developing courses in the persons area of expertise and teaching other undergraduate & graduate courses as needed. Scholarly activities will include conducting research in the persons area of expertise disseminating the research findings in publication outlets that advances the departments reputation and actively competing for grants to support ones scholarship. Beyond teaching and research the assistant professor is responsible for mentoring and advising students supporting student-led research initiatives and providing service to the department institution profession and community.

Duties:

Primary teaching duties are in the MA Program in Counseling Psychology (Specialization: Clinical Mental Health Counseling) Department of Psychology. Teach courses in Addiction Counseling and one or more of the following courses: Professional Identity and Ethics Psychopathology over the Lifespan (DSM-5) Group Work and Counseling Counseling Skills and Practicum/Internship Supervision as well as courses within the candidates area of specialization.
Contribute to undergraduate curriculum such as Survey of Psychology Statistics or Research Methods.
Provide academic advising.
Conduct program of scholarly research.
Supervise student research.
Participate in program department university and professional service.

Minimum Qualifications:

A doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology or a closely related area from an accredited university by the time of employment.
Licensed or license eligible in the State of Hawaii as a Mental Health Counselor or Psychologist by the time of employment.
Demonstrated experience in teaching and/or training.
Documented ability to teach courses listed under Duties.
Evidence of research productivity and clear potential for developing a strong program of research in the area of the applicants expertise.

Desirable Qualifications:

Documented excellence in teaching courses listed under Duties
Experience in mentoring graduate students.
Strong research record as evidenced by empirical publications in recognized scholarly journals or research grants in the area of the applicants expertise.
Experience working with a diverse student body.
