Directs the departments activities and resources to ensure alignment with the mission values and objectives of the department and organization.

Job Description:

The Laboratory Director is responsible for the overall leadership direction and operational management of laboratory services. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality laboratory testing and diagnostic services while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and supporting the organizations mission to provide exceptional patient care.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements departmental goals plans and standards consistent with the clinical administrative legal and ethical requirements and objectives of the organization.

  • Directs and evaluates departmental operations including information technologies service level determination and complaint management to achieve performance and quality control objectives.

  • Ensures laboratory operations comply with regulatory accreditation and safety standards.

  • Plans and monitors staffing activities including hiring onboarding evaluating performance disciplinary actions and continuing education initiatives.

  • Fosters a collaborative and supportive environment that promotes professional development and staff engagement.

  • Prepares monitors and evaluates departmental budgets and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding.

  • Coordinates and directs internal and external audits and ensures timely resolution of findings.

  • Collaborates with physicians clinical leadership and other departments to support patient care initiatives and organizational goals.

Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Medical Technologists (AMT) or certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in laboratory operations preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of laboratory regulatory and accreditation standards.

  • Excellent communication leadership and organizational skills.
