At the Faculty of Engineering and Science Department of Chemistry and Bioscience a position as Postdoc in Recombinant Protein Production in Fungal Hosts is open for appointment from May 1. 2026 or soon hereafter. The position is for 2-year.
Your work tasks
The postdoc will be engaged in our ongoing UPCYFUN project Animal protein produced by precision fermentation using upcycled bio residuals and optimized fungal strains. The work will include developing fungal production hosts into chassis strains both established in house model strains and newly identified candidates followed by introduction of relevant animal protein genes and optimization of efficient expression units (promoters and signal peptides). The position also involves identifying strategies to prevent protein degradation during fermentation and characterizing the produced proteins including assessing potential differences in post translational modification patterns compared to their native animal counterparts.
Your competencies
You must have a strong background in molecular biology genetic engineering and protein characterization as well as solid experience within fungal biotechnology. You should be an effective team player who can also work independently and contribute actively to the professional environment in the fungal research team. Experience with teaching particularly student and group supervision using PBL methods is addition experience with formulating research ideas and contributing to grant proposal writing will be considered an advantage.
A masters degree in Molecular Biology Biochemistry or Biotechnology
Excellent oral and written English language skills are a requirement
The applicant must be interested in working in an interdisciplinary research environment.
Qualification requirements
Appointmentaspostdoc requires academic qualifications at PhD level.
