We are looking for an experienced Senior Structural Design Engineer to join our Engineering team based in Glasgow. This is a key technical role supporting the design development validation and continuous improvement of Balmoral products.
Balmoral Tanks Ltd is a leading European engineering design and manufacturing company. As a result of significant investment in people and plant the company produces what is believed to be the most comprehensive range of tank products available for a single source in the EU.
You will play a lead role in structural design and analysis providing technical expertise across engineering production sales and site services while also supporting and mentoring colleagues within the department.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and review structural designs for new and modified products
- Carry out structural analysis including finite element analysis (FEA)
- Prepare design briefs reports and technical documentation
- Review enquiry documentation and applicable legislation and standards
- Support testing trials and validation of products
- Check and approve design work produced by others
- Liaise with certification authorities to obtain approvals and endorsements
- Provide engineering support to production sales and site services teams
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality and cost
- Support mentor and assist other engineers within the department
- Maintain a safe working environment and personal development records
What Were Looking For
Qualifications
- Honours Degree in Structural Engineering (essential)
- Masters degree in Structural Engineering (preferred)
- Graduate membership of a relevant engineering institution (e.g. MIStructE or similar)
- Chartered or working towards Chartered Structural Engineer status
Experience
- 5 years general engineering experience
- 23 years structural analysis experience
- Experience with steel structures and Eurocodes
- Exposure to finite element analysis (desirable)
- Experience with nonlinear analysis (desirable)
Skills & Attributes
- Strong organisational planning and decisionmaking skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Commercially aware with a customerfocused mindset
- Confident working to tight deadlines and managing technical challenges
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience with engineering software (training provided where required)
Desirable Software Experience
- AutoCAD Mechanical Desktop / Inventor
- Robot or Nastran (FEA)
- MathCAD and Excel for calculations
