Scottish Water looks after 300 reservoirs essential for drinking water and cherished natural spaces for communities and visitors. Were committed to responsible public access supporting tourism and connecting people with their environment.
Were looking for a Visitor Management Ranger (6-month fixed term) to join our Corporate Affairs team from April 2026. Youll help deliver visitor management plans across key sites in Edinburgh the Lothians and Central Scotland.
What youll do
Youll welcome visitors patrol key routes and provide guidance on responsible behaviour. Youll raise awareness of water risks and why reservoirs differ from other bodies of water.
Looking after the sites youll coordinate volunteer work like litter picking and engage with local community groups. Youll organise and deliver events such as guided walks and talks.
Flexibility and resourcefulness are key along with a strong focus on health and safety. Youll conduct risk assessments report maintenance issues and carry out minor or emergency repairs.
Youll also seek ways to improve site access advising project teams on Scottish Outdoor Access Code provisions and ensuring visitor access is considered in capital projects. Additionally youll help collect data to support reporting on visitor access targets.
What youll need
Youll have experience working with the public in a customer-focused role with strong communication skills to provide information solve problems and reassure visitors. A solid understanding of the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and related legislation is essential.
Youll enjoy working outdoors covering rough terrain in all weather. Since much of the role is independent self-motivation is key but you should also be keen to support team goals.

The not-so-small print
This role will be a Grade 4. If youre new to Scottish Water youll join us on a starting salary of 30440. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of 35260.
We operate Balanced Hybrid working at Scottish Water and we encourage people to work half their time in a Scottish Water location.
