About the Opportunity
A well-established engineering consulting firm is seeking a Director of Operations to lead its Repair and Modernization practice. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing business operations managing engineering teams strengthening client relationships and ensuring successful delivery of projects.
The ideal candidate will have a background in civil or structural engineering or architecture with experience in building restoration forensic engineering or building enclosure consulting. This position requires someone who is both technically strong and comfortable in a client-facing consulting environment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
Lead mentor and develop engineering team members
Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports and support professional development
Provide technical guidance and oversight on select projects
Support hiring training and performance management of staff
Promote a collaborative and high-performance team culture
Operations
Oversee project coordination and delivery across both short-term and complex projects
Allocate resources to meet utilization and revenue targets
Review engineering deliverables for accuracy quality and compliance
Support proposal development by providing technical and staffing input
Maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders
Assist with invoicing financial tracking and accounts receivable follow-up as needed
Strategic Planning
Participate in business unit planning and operational strategy
Monitor market conditions and anticipate changes in client needs
Develop revenue projections and resource planning forecasts
Provide operational updates and performance metrics to leadership
Support long-term growth initiatives and service expansion
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering Structural Engineering Architecture or a related discipline
At least 8 years of experience in engineering architecture construction management or project management within design construction or forensic consulting
Experience in one or more of the following areas:
Restoration and Repair Engineering
Forensic Engineering
Building Enclosure Consulting
Structural or Architectural Consulting
Experience managing teams projects or a business unit
Strong understanding of the design and construction process from concept through completion
Ability to review and interpret construction drawings and technical documentation
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineer (PE) license or AIA license
Experience with business unit leadership revenue forecasting or operational planning
Consulting engineering experience
Additional Information
This role requires a client-facing professional who enjoys working with teams and building relationships. Candidates whose experience is primarily in mechanical electrical chemical or geotechnical engineering will not be considered for this position.
