JOB DESCRIPTION: Media Specialist/Librarian
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Kentucky Certification as School Media Librarian (for appropriate level).
- Demonstrates understanding of current instructional strategies.
- Demonstrates ability to work with students staff parents and community members.
- Demonstrates ability to work with the Wide Area Network and to assist students and staff with using it as an instructional tool.
- Demonstrates recognition that the Library Media Center (LMC) is at the heart of the instructional program in the school.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
JOB GOALS: To enhance the school instructional program in support of student learning; and to support the Mission Statement of the Estill County School System.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops short and long-range goals that guide the development of the LMC.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures for the operation of the LMC.
- Maintains a technologically advanced facility and program.
- Coordinates the schools implementation of KETS (if assigned).
- Trains and supervises clerks student assistants and adult volunteers to perform duties efficiently.
- Selects materials and technology that support the schools curriculum and educational philosophy.
- Withdraws obsolete materials and classifies catalogs processes and organizes for circulation the educational media and technology.
- Establishes and follows procedures for maintenance and repair of all media and technology equipment.
- Maintains a current inventory.
- Prepares and submits reports to administrators as needed.
- Prepares and administers budgets according to needs of the LMC.
- Evaluates LMC programs services facilities and materials to ensure optimum use.
- Maintains the LMC to be functional attractive and orderly environment that encourages maximum use.
- Manages student behavior in constructive manner.
- Serves as an instructional resource consultant and media specialist to teachers and students.
- Establishes methods for flexible scheduling of classes and students to promote use by individuals small groups and whole classes.
- Serves on committees involved with designing learning activities for students curriculum revision and/or textbook adoption.
- Plans and/or participates in special projects or proposals.
- Plans cooperatively with teachers to incorporate research information retrieval skills and literature appreciation.
- Plans units with teachers that stress whole language and interdisciplinary strategies.
- Provides orientation and staff training related to the LMC.
- Provides access to professional materials and information for school staff.
- Participates in various professional organizations that relate to library media and technology.
- Utilizes current research and methods in areas of technology teaching learning and library and information science.
- Promotes a positive relationship with students staff parents and community.
- Publicizes the LMC programs services and materials through newsletters announcements and in other innovative ways.
- Networks with other libraries and shares resources.
- Submits to administrators/SBDM and faculty statistical reports that support LMC goals and program.
- Works with the building administrator to promote and align the LMC goals to those of the school.
- Maintains confidentiality of students and/or staff.
- Principal may assign other duties.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Days and salary pursuant to district salary schedules.
