About the Role
The successful candidate will teach Design Technology across Key Stages 3 and 4 delivering engaging and well-structured lessons that help pupils develop both technical knowledge and practical workshop skills. Depending on experience teaching may include areas such as product design resistant materials engineering concepts or graphics.
You will encourage pupils to explore the full design process from research and planning through to manufacturing and evaluation. Lessons should promote creativity independent thinking and confidence when working with tools and materials.
Key responsibilities include:
Planning and delivering engaging Design Technology lessons across KS3 and KS4
Teaching pupils the full design process including research planning manufacturing and evaluation
Supporting the development of practical workshop skills and safe use of equipment
Encouraging creativity innovation and problem-solving in design projects
Assessing pupil progress and providing constructive feedback to support improvement
Maintaining high standards of health and safety in workshop environments
Contributing to curriculum development within the Design & Technology department
Supporting enrichment activities such as design clubs or STEM-related projects
Experience and Skills
The successful candidate will:
Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification
Have strong subject knowledge in Design Technology or a related discipline
Demonstrate enthusiasm for practical teaching and creative learning
Possess excellent classroom management and organisational skills
Be committed to inspiring pupils of all abilities
Be willing to contribute to the wider life of the school
