Job Summary

Position Summary

The IT Assistant will serve as the first point of contact for individuals seeking IT help at Blue Ridge CTC. IT Assistants complete tasks such as updating software providing help desk support to students and staff and resolving local computer issues.

  • Updating/ repairing computers
  • Answering IT questions from students and staff
  • Installing making and moving cabling

This position is located at the main campus location but may report to all Blue Ridge CTC locations as required to meet the needs of the position.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide hands on hardware and software support for internal employees and students.
  • Support users with the following issues: login configuration printer network connectivity etc.
  • Troubleshoot correct and/or escalate problems that occur with equipment (computers phones printers etc.)
  • Install and configure hardware software and repair printers desktops and laptops
  • Installing making and connecting data cabling
  • Install and configure hardware and software with deadlines of class dates provided by faculty
  • Ensure the computers labs are kept in good working order.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Associates degree or higher

Experience

  • Preferred industry IT certifications Network Security
  • Computer repair experience

Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required

  • Providing a high level of customer service while working in a fast paced environment
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure
  • Ability to work independently or with a team to meet organizational needs.
  • Advanced knowledge of desktop and server operating systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of Personal Computers and laptops
  • General knowledge of data communications systems
  • General knowledge of computer networking
  • Ability to use various hand and power tools and testing equipment
  • Ability to keep accurate records of work performed and parts used
  • Ability to operate personal computers and related software used for communications
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

Licensure/Certification Required

  • Valid drivers license required.

Physical/Work Demands

  • This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally up to 20 pounds of force frequently and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • Work requires climbing balancing stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting fingering grasping and repetitive motions
  • Visual acuity is required for depth perception color perception peripheral vision
  • Preparing and analyzing written or computer data
  • Visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts
  • Use of measuring devices assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms length
  • Operation of machines operation of motor vehicles
  • Determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities
  • The worker may be subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
