Job Summary

Kong API Developer

Austin TX (hybrid)

Key Responsibilities

Design develop and maintain Kong API Gateway configurations plugins and routing rules.
Build and integrate RESTful APIs and microservices.
Manage API lifecycle including authentication authorization traffic control monitoring and versioning.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (architecture DevOps product QA) to design scalable and secure solutions.
Optimize application performance and ensure high availability of APIs and backend services.
Develop frontend applications using Angular/React (as applicable) integrated with backend APIs.
Implement security best practices (OAuth2 JWT mTLS API keys) for API consumption.
Troubleshoot and resolve API gateway integration and application issues.
Work with CI/CD pipelines and cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP).
Document technical specifications API contracts and best practices.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Hands-on experience with Kong API Gateway (or similar API gateways such as Apigee AWS API Gateway MuleSoft).
Experience in microservices architecture and containerization (Docker Kubernetes).
Familiarity with RESTful API design principles and API-first development.
Good understanding of CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps Jenkins GitHub Actions).
Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases (SQL Server MongoDB PostgreSQL).
Knowledge of cloud services (Azure preferred AWS/GCP a plus).
Strong problem-solving debugging and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in developing Kong plugins .
Exposure to service mesh technologies (Istio Linkerd).
Knowledge of GraphQL APIs.
Familiarity with API monitoring tools (Prometheus Grafana Kong Vitals).
Prior experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
