SALARY: TEACHER SCALE COMMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE (BASED ON FY27 SCALE)
DEPARTMENT: BRUNSWICK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Job Description: The candidate for this position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters an interest in and appreciation for visual arts while developing students ability for creative expression. The teacher provides instruction in artistic techniques and concepts appropriate to students interests and abilities and supports the discovery and development of student talents in the field of art.
Direct Accountability and Report: Works under the supervision of the school principal who is responsible for overseeing the instructional program and operations of the school. The Elementary Art Teacher collaborates with school administration and instructional staff to support the delivery of a comprehensive visual arts program for students at Brunswick Elementary School.
An annual teacher evaluation will be conducted in accordance with Brunswick County Public Schools evaluation procedures and will be based on the job description division and school goals and objectives and the overall performance and effectiveness of the teacher in supporting student learning and the instructional program.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Art Education or a related field.
- Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia Department of Education teaching license with an endorsement in Art (PreK through 12).
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students staff parents and the community
- Minimum of three (3) years working with students in some instructional setting
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides instruction in visual arts using the Virginia Standards of Learning and the Brunswick County Public Schools curriculum and instructional frameworks.
- Develops and implements lesson plans that provide a balanced art program and organizes class time effectively to support student learning.
- Adapts instruction to meet the needs of individual students and groups including differentiated and remedial instruction aligned with division instructional goals.
- Demonstrates and teaches artistic techniques including drawing painting sculpture and other visual art forms using a variety of materials and instructional tools.
- Evaluates and monitors student progress maintains appropriate records and prepares progress reports as required by division guidelines.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to ensure a safe orderly and productive classroom environment.
- Instructs students in the proper use care and storage of art tools materials and equipment.
- Collaborates with teachers administrators and support staff to address student academic social and developmental needs.
- Communicates effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities.
- Supervises students in assigned activities during the instructional day.
- Participates in faculty meetings professional learning communities and school based committees.
- Plans and coordinates art displays and exhibitions to showcase student work for the school and community.
- Administers division and state assessments in accordance with established procedures.
- Models professional conduct and nondiscriminatory practices in all school activities.
Other Duties
- Maintains professional competence through participation in professional development curriculum planning and instructional training opportunities.
- Supports school and division initiatives and may participate in student parent and community activities.
- Creates an engaging learning environment through appropriate displays bulletin boards and instructional resources.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or appropriate administrator.
