Job Summary

JOB DESCRIPTION NARRATIVE:

Provides safe and efficient transportation for students on routes and to various school activities adhering to State and District regulations and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge:

CDL License not required. Must pass a required medical exam have a good driving record and pass a felony background check able to read and write. Patience is required for this position.

Skills:

Must demonstrate the ability to safely maneuver a school shuttle van. Must be able to get along with students and staff members to provide effective discipline for students.

Machines/Equipment:

Shuttle Van and two-way radio

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Obey all traffic laws and observe all safety regulations
  2. Maintain discipline when students are on the shuttle van
  3. Follow assigned schedules (timely)
  4. Discharge students only at authorized stops
  5. Transport only authorized students
  6. Report all accidents and complete required reports
  7. Daily responsibilities of shuttle van drivers:
    1. Check radiator for correct anti-freeze level
    2. Check and keep oil at proper level
    3. Sweep out shuttle van and check for obstructions on windshield mirrors and windows
    4. Check brakes stop lights & loading lights to see if operating properly
    5. During winter months start shuttle van a few minutes early check heaters and defrosters
    6. Check for mechanical problems and report any problems in written form by using the daily report form
    7. Check interior of van after every trip for damage to interior of van and report damages immediately to the Transportation Director
    8. Check outside of the van after every trip for broken lights cracked windows and damage to van body. Report any damage immediately to the Transportation Director
    9. Turn information of all new students riding the shuttle van
  8. Responsible for fueling the van.
  9. Other duties as assigned by supervisor
