Job Summary
The Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse (PCU RN) provides specialized nursing care for adult patients requiring close monitoring following traumatic injuries or surgical interventions. This role involves caring for patients who are hemodynamically stable but require intermediate-level care including telemetry monitoring and frequent clinical assessment.
The nurse collaborates with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to deliver high-quality patient care while ensuring patient safety clinical stability and optimal recovery outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct nursing care to patients in the Progressive Care / Telemetry unit.
Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry rhythms and respond appropriately to abnormalities.
Perform comprehensive patient assessments and continuous monitoring of patient conditions.
Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and nursing protocols.
Provide post-operative and trauma-related nursing care for patients recovering from surgical interventions or traumatic injuries.
Manage patients with complex medical and surgical conditions requiring close monitoring.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including respiratory therapy physical therapy pharmacy radiology and social services.
Participate in Rapid Response Team activations and emergency interventions when necessary.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record system.
Follow infection control protocols safety procedures and hospital care standards.
Patient Population
The unit primarily cares for adult trauma patients who are hemodynamically stable but require continuous monitoring after injury or surgery. Common patient conditions include:
Required Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) License.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
Telemetry monitoring experience.
Minimum 2 years of nursing experience for first-time travel nurses.
Ability to successfully complete a medication competency test.
