The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine Atmospheric and Earth Science invites applications for one Senior Research Associate II (SRA II) position at the NOAA Fisheries Southeast Fisheries Science Center Marine Mammal and Turtle Divisions Marine Mammal Molecular Genomics Laboratory based in Crowley Louisiana. The lab conducts genomic analysis to support the management and conservation of marine mammals throughout the southeastern U.S.

We are searching for a candidate with expertise in environmental DNA (eDNA) laboratory practices as well as bioinformatics to contribute to our ongoing work with eDNA. Duties will include eDNA field collection performing eDNA extractions quantitative and digital PCR metabarcoding next-generation library preparation and data analysis. Additional duties include database entry archiving equipment maintenance and management of genomic data metadata and pipelines and the preparation of reports and/or peer-reviewed manuscripts. This position is currently funded for 1 year with possible extension based on funding availability and will be based near Lafayette Louisiana. Telework flexibility is available.

Candidates for this position must have: 1) a Masters degree or higher in marine biology ecology environmental science or a related field; (2) at least 1 year of relevant work-related experience with evidence of tangible contributions to the dissemination of new research information; (3) fieldwork and laboratory experience including eDNA collection and analysis of genomic data sets; (4) the ability and desire to work as part of a collaborative team and support a culture of respect inclusivity and cooperation; (5) demonstrated organizational and communication skills; and (6) demonstrated ability to successfully and efficiently work on multiple tasks at once.
