Job Summary

2 Month Contract With A Local Authority


Job Purpose

The Fire & Compliance Technician will support the delivery of fire safety and statutory compliance within the Councils residential housing portfolio. The role involves conducting routine safety inspections maintaining accurate records and ensuring that communal areas and equipment meet regulatory standards.

The successful candidate will work both independently and collaboratively to meet inspection schedules and compliance requirements while providing a professional and customer-focused service to residents and stakeholders.



Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct scheduled safety inspections across the Councils residential buildings.

  • Carry out monthly checks and tests of fire safety systems and equipment.

  • Inspect communal fire doors smoke alarms and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms within residential properties.

  • Perform emergency lighting functional tests (flick tests).

  • Undertake visual checks on water systems where required including basic legionella control tasks.

  • Record inspection results accurately and maintain compliance records.

  • Report faults defects and compliance risks promptly.

  • Work with contractors property teams and residents to ensure timely resolution of issues.

  • Maintain a high level of professionalism when interacting with residents and stakeholders.

  • Support the Council in maintaining compliance with relevant fire and building safety regulations.



Requirements

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.

  • Relevant qualification in fire safety building maintenance housing compliance or facilities management (desirable).

  • Experience carrying out property inspections safety checks or compliance monitoring in residential or commercial buildings.

  • Basic knowledge of fire safety systems (fire alarms emergency lighting fire doors sprinklers extinguishers).

  • Awareness of building safety regulations and compliance standards in residential properties.

  • Ability to conduct inspections and accurately record findings.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with residents and stakeholders.

  • Good IT skills for maintaining compliance records and reports.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team within a hybrid working environment.

  • Strong organisation and time-management skills to meet inspection schedules.

  • Professional reliable and customer-focused approach.

  • Full UK driving licence and ability to travel across sites (desirable for inspection roles).

  • 35 working hours per week
  • Standard DBS Required
