DESCRIPTION

THE COUNTY:

Alameda County located on the east side of San FranciscoBay is Californias seventh-largest county. The County employs 9700 full-timeemployees and operates on an annual budget of $3.4 billion. THE POSITION:

Under general supervision to transport infants and minorchildren juvenile detainees and county wards by passenger car van bus orother public transportation; to be responsible for their safety and care; andto perform related duties as required.

Positions in this classification are found in the SocialServices Agency and the Probation Department. Most trips are within the BayArea Counties; however some assignments may be throughout the State ofCalifornia. Transportation Workers are not assigned any counseling functions.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications andknowledge and skills below the ideal candidate will possess:

A valid drivers license and a safe driving recordare required.

Proven history of takingresponsibility toensure that assigned tasks are completed with care and attention to detail.

Conscientiousnessin observing safetypractices related to driving and vehicle inspection and the ability torecognize potential hazards and a track record of taking action to correctthem.

A desire to work with the targeted youthpopulation in an appropriate and professional manner.

Ability to communicate effectively with diversegroups.

THE VACANCIES:

This recruitment is to fill positions in the SocialServices Agency and the Probation Department. Experience:
The equivalent of one year of full-time work experience involving the operationof a motor vehicle or performing work which requires use of a vehicle on thejob.

Special Requirements:
Some positions require possession of a certificate of completion in First Aidor Basic Life Support AND possession of a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)certificate.

A good driving record according to the Department of Motor Vehicles negligentoperator guidelines and qualification for automobile insurance.

Candidates appointed to positions in this classification in the ProbationDepartment must pass a thorough background investigation. Any felony convictionis disqualifying.

License:
Possession of a valid California Drivers License. Some positions require thatthe applicant possess a valid Class B California Drivers License.

NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above minimum qualificationsin the announcement of an examination.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

The most suitably qualified candidates willpossess the following competencies:

Knowledge of:

General behavior patterns of young children juveniles.
Traffic rules and regulations and safe driving practices.
First aid and basic life saving techniques.

Ability to:

Operate a passenger automobile van or bus in a safe and proper manner.
Provide articulate information regarding the passengers behavior and abilityto relate during the drive.
Supervise children while driving.
Schedule trips and appointments efficiently.
Exercise prudence and caution in the transportation of juveniles.
Maintain security and safety routines.
Effectively deal with disturbed youngsters and adolescents.
Communicate tactfully and effectively with juveniles.
Function effectively under stress and evaluate situations for potentialdanger.
Follow written and oral instructions.
Care for infants.
Become familiar with the general characteristics and behavior patterns ofmentally disordered persons.

EXAMINATION COMPONENTS

THE EXAMINATION:

The examination will consist of the following three (3)steps:

Review for Minimum Qualifications:

If you do meet the minimum qualifications you will benotified via email. You must fill out the application and supplementalquestionnaire completely. Not filling out any part of either the application orthe supplemental questionnaire will disqualify you from the submitted in place of complete applications will not be accepted.

Virtual Written Examination:

Once it has been established that you meet the minimumqualifications you will be invited via email to participate in amultiple-choice examination.

Virtual Oral Panel Interview(Weightedas 100% of the final examination score):

If the candidate is successful in the written portion ofthe examination the candidate will then be invited to participate in an oralinterview where they will be asked about past job experiences relating to thecore competencies that successful incumbents of the job possess. The candidateswho pass this portion of the exam will then be scored and put into rank oral panel interview may also serve as the hiring interview at thediscretion of the hiring authority. The dates listed above are tentative andsubject to change based on the needs of the department.

Candidates must attain a qualifying rating on eachportion of this recruitment.
