The City of Manhattan Kansas seeks a collaborative creative and motivated student to provide support to the Human Resources Department through a spring/summer this role youll work side-by-side with professionals to gain a broad exposure to special projects and HR business operations. You will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills apply knowledge and work with HR experts to support the Citys operational objectives.
Essential Functions
- Collaborate on various projects spanning all aspects of Human Resources including:
- Talent Acquisition Support.
- HR support; including onboarding and out-processing.
- Benefits and Compensation Analysis.
- Internal Communications.
- Organizational Development.
- Professional Development and Performance Management.
While the day-to-day activities may vary some specific projects you may get involved with include:
- Apprenticeship Program: collaborate with City departments to identify apprenticeship opportunities and develop an apprenticeship program implementation strategy
- New Employee Orientation: support improvement efforts on HR program content and delivery
- Supervisory Training: schedule and organize supervisory training programs across departments.
- Recruitment: assist in the overall recruitment process from interview setup to paperwork associated with the onboarding of new employees
- HR Process Improvement: evaluate current HR processes and assist in actions to drive greater operational efficiency
Requirements
Required Knowledge Skills and Additional Qualifications
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in human resources or related curriculum at an accredited college or university.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively including proficiency in clear and concise oral and written communication.
- Must be able to work independently with limited supervision while maintaining confidentiality of employee data and information.
- Proven ability to take initiative act with appropriate level of urgency and build positive and productive professional relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.
- Possess strong follow-through and attention to detail.
- Able to be flexible proactive resourceful in locating information.
- Ability and desire to work as a team player.
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office include Excel.
