Your Opportunity

The Aherlkeme Development Centre (ADC) in Alice Springs provides transitional accommodation and support for Territorians who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Designed to assist individuals and families who face challenges securing and sustaining tenancies the Centre offers culturally safe support case management and life skills development that enables residents to progress toward stable housing and greater independence.

As a Community Development Worker you will support residents families and the broader community through participant centred and strengths based engagement. This is an on site position where you will work closely with residents to co design meaningful programs and activities facilitate opportunities for inclusion and deliver outreach across regional and remote areas. Your ability to build trusting relationships apply specialist knowledge and demonstrate strong cultural capability will support participants to identify goals strengthen community connections and create sustainable pathways forward. This role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact through innovative community led approaches that promote empowerment and positive change.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Co design and deliver community programs activities and visiting services that reflect resident needs interests and aspirations.
  • Facilitate inclusive groups for adults families and children that build engagement connection and wellbeing.
  • Bring the ADC community together by coordinating events school holiday activities participant voice meetings and an inspiring annual calendar of community and cultural events.
  • Provide outreach support into regional and remote communities to ensure equitable access to services and opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local community organisations government agencies and service providers to improve collaboration and referral pathways.
  • Support residents to identify personal goals develop life skills and strengthen the confidence needed to transition toward independence and secure housing.
  • Maintain high quality service delivery through accurate reporting administrative tasks compliance requirements and the promotion of safe culturally responsive and child safe practices.

Requirementsfor Success

  • Experience in homelessness services youth work housing support or community services including work in remote or regional settings.
  • Strong cultural awareness and experience working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples including understanding of local cultural protocols.
  • Relevant qualification such as a Certificate IV or higher in Community Services or equivalent experience with at least 1 year supporting participants with complex needs.
  • Demonstrated community development experience of at least two years including the design and facilitation of community programs and group activities.
  • Strong engagement and communication skills with the ability to motivate residents support participation and build positive relationships with adults teenagers and children.
  • Well developed organisational and administrative skills including report writing documentation and the ability to manage small budgets or project resources.
  • The ability to adapt use initiative and exercise sound judgment while maintaining a professional person centred and strengths based approach.
  • First Aid Certificate is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Full driver licence with no restrictions.

Before starting work with us you will need to undertake a national police history check qualifications and referee checks and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
