About Us

Alfred Care Group is home to one of Victorias most comprehensive gastroenterology services. The Gastroenterology Department is responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with suspected or established gastrointestinal and liver disease including the appropriate utilisation of diagnostic and therapeutic gastrointestinal endoscopy and other investigations. Clientele include inpatients admitted electively or via the Emergency Department directly to the Gastroenterology Unit or referred for investigation and management from other Units within Alfred Care Group as well as outpatients managed in the General Gastroenterology Hepatitis Liver Inflammatory Bowel Disease Functional GI Disorders (FGID) PEG Hepatoma and Endoscopy Clinics. The Department prides itself on the provision of high-quality ambulatory care of chronic illness in such highly specialised clinics.

Position Summary

The Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders CNC will be involved in improving outcome and access to care by implementing a novel nurse and allied health led Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders Service. The CNC will assess and triage patients to nursing/allied health led care or medical led care using a combination of online and face to face clinical assessments in conjunction with the treating gastroenterologist. A key component of the role will be the provision of support and education to patients regarding the pathophysiology of functional bowel disorders and the potential treatment strategies available. They will provide senior nursing clinical leadership in the development of specialist clinical practice and service delivery within the Gastroenterology department and will be expected to employ advanced clinical skills and be comfortable utilising extended autonomy of decision-making in conjunction with other senior clinicians.

Qualifications /Experience Required

  • Current Registered as a Registered Nurse with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA
  • Advanced clinical knowledge and skills in Gastrointestinal Disorders or chronic disease management.
  • Post graduate qualification in Gastrointestinal Disorders/ Chronic Disease preferred/working towards Masters qualification
