    POSITION DESCRIPTION:

    The ELL teachers primary role is to support students who are identified as English Language Learners. This support includes providing English Language Development (ELD) instruction either in the EL setting and/or in a general education class. The ELD support takes an overall approach to learning English including language usage grammar development reading strategies literacy development and vocational and workplace English. Another important role of the ELL teacher is to collaborate with the general education teacher and other District staff to support EL students.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    • Plan organize and provide explicit listening speaking reading and writing instruction in an ELD setting in English to students in grades Kinder through 5th grade.
    • Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the districts/schools instructional program so as to ensure that students meet and exceed learning targets.
    • Develop and deliver lesson plans that utilize a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies for ELLs including scaffolds and supports to make grade-level content accessible.
    • Address all aspects of communication through appropriate instruction that develops each students ability to read write speak and listen in the appropriate content area.
    • Administer academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition.
    • Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth and progress.
    • Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies.
    • Adapt curriculum to provide individual small group and/or remedial instruction as to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students.
    • Provide resources to help families support language development at home.
    • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior required to run an orderly and productive classroom environment.
    • Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement.
    • Oversee assigned out-of-classroom activities during the school day as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Completion of an ESL Program
    • Hold a Wyoming Teaching Certificate with an ESL Endorsement in K-5/6 or K-12 (Applicants must be able to obtain a teaching certificate issued by the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board ( School District places employees on salary schedules on the basis of:
      1. Wyoming experience.
      2. Out-of-state experience up to 7 years.
      3. Degree ï½ Bachelors Masters or Doctorate.
      4. Semester Graduate Credits beyond Degree.

      Salary pending approval of the 26/27 Compensation Package; 25/26 package can be foundhere.

      PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit on the floor depending on the age of the children. While performing the duties of this job the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. 0 - 12 feet and on occasion up to 20 feet such as boxes of books and equipment. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person may need to lift arms to write on chalk or marking board and occasionally stoop kneel crouch and reach 0 - 24 inches and up to 36 inches above the head. The employee is directly responsible for the safety well-being and work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed materialthe ability to adjust focus and exposure to screen(s) via technology. Hearing ability to monitor activity and presence of students and respond to communication with students and adults is required. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

      WORK ENVIRONMENT:

      The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is normally low to moderate but may become loud when large groups are together in a room. The employee may be required to move from room to room to provide instruction and may have to maneuver in crowded hallways. Duties are typically performed indoors and occasionally outdoors such as playground duty or when students are boarding or unloading buses. The employee may be exposed to unpredictable weather conditions. This position is typically performed in a hazard free clean and healthy environment.
