Job Summary
Berwick Academy a PK-12 coeducational day school located in Southern Maine seeks an Assistant Athletic Director to join our faculty and staff. The Assistant Athletic Director reports to the Director of Athletics and assists in the administrative direction of the interscholastic athletic program for grades 6-12 as well as the Young Bulldogs program for grades 3-5.
The responsibilities of the Assistant Athletic Director include but are not limited to:
Supporting the Director of Athletics in building a dynamic competitive and highly engaging athletic program particularly in implementing new programs to enhance learning and develop skills in leadership teamwork creativity and team sports;
Collaborating with division directors and the athletic department on generating student interest and excitement to sign-up for team sports and intramural programs;
Creating and confirming the games schedule for the 6-12 interscholastic athletic program;
Scheduling practice times and locations for all Varsity JV Middle School and intramural teams;
Overseeing the Middle School athletic program including sign ups game scheduling support and evaluation of coaches and communication with student-athletes parents and faculty;
Building a highly visible presence in the Berwick community to create positive team culture across all sports;
Welcoming teams and managing the facilities and personnel on campus including athletic trainers coaches players officials parents and fans;
Maintaining the Athletic Website and posting schedules changes and updates;
Managing the Berwick Athletics social media accounts and other communications channels posting results and highlights for athletic contests;
Offering a combination of one to two seasons of coaching and/or teaching Middle School physical education;
Working with colleagues to support student-athletes and coaches in the college recruitment process;
Promoting in partnership with the Director of Athletics and coaches successful student-athlete recruitment retention and engagement;
Supporting the interviewing hiring and onboarding of coaches;
Partnering with the Eastern Independent League (EIL) in building league collaboration and strength.
Ideal candidates will offer a student-centered approach to their work as well as strong communication skills and a keen interest in collaboration and ongoing professional learning.
Candidates with experience coaching field hockey ice hockey rowing and/or lacrosse will be of particular interest.
