Axiom Insights is developing a new method to understand how drugs drug carriers and biomolecules distribute throughout the body spatially resolved non-invasively and over arbitrarily long observation periods.
The technology is based on X-ray fluorescence imaging (XFI) conducted directly at the synchrotron facility at Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY). The datasets generated through this approach are methodologically novel. The models required to interpret them do not yet exist.
We are looking for someone who enjoys tackling complex scientific questions with modern quantitative methods and is willing to think deeply about a new and unconventional application domain.
Tasks
- Develop simulation models that derive insights into pharmacokinetic processes from a novel data foundation: drug distribution over time interpolation of non-measured time points and extrapolation beyond the measurement period
- Work closely with the measurement and labeling teams to establish a methodologically sound study design and provide early assessments of the feasibility of predictive modelling approaches
- Build and structure the underlying data environment integrate external reference data from preclinical studies and develop initial visualization components for a client-facing data cockpit
- In the medium term develop a predictive model capable of forecasting the pharmacokinetic behaviour of a drug candidate based on its chemical structure and properties accounting for biological variability and validated against established PK models; Define both the input and output data structures required for this modelling framework
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of and experience working with biomedical datasets from pharmacokinetics
- Comfortable working with incomplete information and able to justify modelling decisions in a transparent and scientifically sound way
- A background in computational biology bioinformatics quantitative pharmacology/pharmacy physics or a related field is helpful but not required
- Experience with simulation studies or time-series data is a plus
- Familiarity with programming and machine learning concepts is advantageous
- What is non-negotiable: a high degree of ownership scientific rigor and the willingness to think collaboratively within a small interdisciplinary team
Benefits
- Direct impact on the reduction of animal testing aligned with the principles of the 3R Principles (Replacement Reduction Refinement)
- An interdisciplinary team spanning physics biology chemistry and data science
- Office located in Science City Bahrenfeld within the tecHHub Hamburg with exciting collaborations involving Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) University of Hamburg University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf and other research institutions
- Direct integration into a research consortium with DESY and the University of Hamburg focused on novel pharmacokinetics
- Responsibility for IT budget and access to a conference budget
- Flexible working hours and hybrid work arrangements
We look forward to receiving your application and promise to get back to you within 48 hours at the latest.
