Qualifications: Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate in Assigned Subject(s)(American Indian Studies preferred)/OSBI background check
Job Goal:Provide exceptional instruction to assigned students while working within the districts established policies and procedures.
Classification:Exempt
Position Summary:
Create a flexible program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establish effective rapport with pupils; motivate pupils to develop skills attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for education following each pupils ability; and establish good relationships with parents staff members andmaintain a smooth relationship between the Native American community and the School District.
Job Specifications:
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below represent the required knowledge skill and/or ability.
Essential Duties:
Teach courses focused on Native American/Indigenous history culture and contemporary issues potentially covering interdisciplinary topics like law literature and social structures.
Organize activities that promote cultural awareness heritage and appreciation for both students and staff.
Instruct pupils in citizenship and essential subject matter specified in the school districts state law and administrative regulations and procedures.
Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil with the identified objectives.
Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction.
Utilizes grading patterns that are fairly administered and based on identified criteria.
Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Treat pupils with respect and dignity.
Evaluate pupils academic and social growth keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports.
Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupils progress and interpret the school program.
Interacts with pupils staff and parents positively and professionally.
Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health attitude and learning problems.
Establish rapport with pupils and provide a pleasant safe and orderly climate conducive to learning.
Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
Supervise and monitor students during out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day (Indian Education field trips).
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge Skills and/or Abilities Required):
Native American Preference must be exercised. Public Law 93-638 The Indian Self Determination and Education Act of 1975 now directs Indian Preference to be used in hiring for all Title VI and Johnson OMalley vacancies.
Knowledge of Native American history and culture
A bachelors in education or a related field is required.
Oklahoma Teaching Certification in subjects listed below or subjects or Alternative Teaching Certification approved by the Oklahoma State Department of Education is required.
American Indian Studies
Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students staff parents and the community.
Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others demonstrate self-discipline and initiative and follow state and district guidelines.

Occasional Requirements:Lift/move up to 25 poundsability to administer CPR
Visual Requirements:Close color peripheral depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
