GE Grid Systems Integration (GSI) are looking for a Senior Tendering Application Engineer to work in our Grid Solutions business on our High Voltage AC and DC substation bids. The candidate will be based in our Norway Oslo office.
The Senior Tendering Application Engineer is the technical authority within the tendering engineering function leading the development of complex and strategically significant bids for High Voltage AC & DC substations Offshore Wind Battery Energy Storage and Green Hydrogen projects. The role is responsible for defining and driving the technical solution strategy ensuring engineering robustness commercial competitiveness and risk optimisation. Working closely with Bid Management and Senior Leadership the Senior Engineer provides multidisciplinary technical leadership challenges assumptions defends solutions under executive scrutiny and plays a key role in securing projects that support the energy transition.

Job Description
The Role
The Senior Engineer will act as the technical authority within the tendering engineering function leading complex and strategically significant bids for High Voltage AC & DC substations Offshore Windfarms Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Green Hydrogen production projects supporting the Green Energy Transition.
The role requires a highly experienced commercially aware and resilient individual with a deep understanding of the full bid lifecycle market dynamics customer value drivers and competitive positioning. The Senior Engineer will shape technical strategy challenge assumptions optimise solutions and ensure robust defendable engineering proposals that withstand executive and customer scrutiny.
This position provides technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams and works closely with Bid Managers Commercial Project Management and Senior Leadership to develop winning technically sound and commercially optimised solutions.
A comprehensive and authoritative knowledge of high voltage AC substation design and primary plant is essential alongside strong working knowledge of protection systems control & SCADA OT cyber security telecommunications metering instrument transformers and overall substation integration including interfaces with HVDC and renewable generation assets.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead and own the technical development of complex and high value bid submissions across HV AC HVDC and renewable infrastructure projects.
- Define and drive the overall technical solution strategy in alignment with commercial objectives and risk profile.
- Provide senior-level technical authority on substation primary plant design ensuring compliance with client specifications grid codes and international standards.
- Challenge validate and optimise engineering concepts to ensure technical robustness cost competitiveness and risk mitigation.
- Conduct detailed technical analysis of client requirements identifying value engineering opportunities and differentiators.
- Lead multidisciplinary engineering inputs (primary secondary protection control telecoms cyber security civil interfaces) to deliver fully integrated and coherent technical proposals.
- Prepare and review comprehensive technical documentation including scope definition design philosophies schedules cost inputs and risk registers in accordance with contractual and internal governance requirements.
- Develop and approve equipment and services technical specifications aligned with project strategy.
- Interface with executive leadership during tender reviews providing clear technical justification and defending assumptions under robust challenge.
- Mentor and guide Lead Engineers and junior team members elevating technical quality and consistency across bids.
- Drive continuous improvement of tendering engineering processes tools and standardisation.
- Influence bid/no-bid decisions through technical risk and opportunity assessment.
- Act as technical focal point in discussions with customers partners and internal stakeholders.
Required Qualifications Skills and Experience
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Power Engineering from an accredited university (Masters degree desirable).
- Minimum 1215 years experience within Engineering Technology or Customer Application Engineering in the Transmission and/or Distribution industry.
- Demonstrable experience leading complex HV substation bids; experience in Offshore Wind and/or HVDC projects is highly desirable.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of customer value drivers and competitive positioning.
- Proven ability to lead technical strategy under tight and high-pressure tendering timelines.
- High level of analytical capability and structured problem-solving skills.
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders and confidently defend technical positions in executive review forums.
- Experience managing technical risk and integrating multidisciplinary engineering inputs.
- Fluent oral and written English is required with emerging Norwegian and/or French language is preferable.
