You must have the ability to develop meaningful connections with students the skills to deliver engaging content and the talent to create a classroom culture in which individuals are valued for what they bring to the role is a hybrid role that includes teaching both an experiential education class called Adventure and a health and physical education class called WellnessThe position of Adventure Teacher is a unique full-time position in the Adventure Education field and is an opportunity to join a school community committed to student growth through experiential learning and challenge. As the Adventure teacher you will teach 2 Adventure classes designed to immerse students in the skills and experiences of adventure education principles. Every student takes a five-day-a-week Adventure class for a trimester each year. Units of study typically include team building map and compass GPS and geocaching and climbing. Other units of study have included snowshoeing birding and stargazing. The school has the facilities and equipment to support these units including an extensive indoor challenge course built by High 5 and class sets of compasses GPS units and snowshoes as well as equipment for off-site camping trips.A Wellness Teacher at McAuliffe leads students in a combination of health and fitness classes. Students attend Wellness enthusiastically because they are physically active in a really fun and engaging way. The health topics taught in each grade level are relevant to students lives: nutrition sex education substance abuse peer pressure dealing with stress and anxiety etc. Due to both our philosophy and our physical space we are seeking an educator who can think outside the box about what a physical education class can look like and who is committed to helping each student develop life skills to grow into healthy adults. There is an opportunity for this teacher to share classes with another educator and focus on the topics that are most in their area of **Plan and teach 2 sections of Adventure and 2 sections of Wellness**Serve as a Crew (Advisory) leader** Implement formative and summative assessments to track student progress; engage students in the assessment and tracking process** Provide differentiated support including accommodations and modifications to ensure all students are able to thrive in class** Communicate with students families regarding performance and progress** Engage in ongoing professional learning including instructional coaching team collaboration and all-school professional development** Oversee off-site trips (typically three per year) and the maintenance of equipmentQUALIFICATIONS- Experience: Experience in and passion for teaching art or design preferably at the middle school level.- Technical Skill: Expertise with the iterative design process and a variety of assessment methods.- Curriculum: Commitment to developing curriculum and implementing EL Education core practices.- Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal skills commitment to teamwork and readiness to reflect and grow.- Licensure: Massachusetts DESE licensure in Health and/or Physical Education (PreK-8 or 5-12) or eligibility for waiver is REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENTMust be able to remain in a stationary position for extended be able to move about the classroom and school building to assist be able to lift/move instructional materials up to 50 lbs to communicate effectively with students staff and parents in person and & BENEFITSSalary Range: In the spirit of pay transparency the base salary range for this position is $41952 (step 0 Bachelors) $84016 (step 20 Masters). If you are hired at Christa McAuliffe your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills education and/or applicable experience. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
