About the Role
Essex County Council (ECC) is seeking enthusiastic Cycle Training Instructors to deliver Bikeability training courses to children and occasionally adults across Essex. This role involves promoting cycling confidence safety and independence while adhering to road safety laws and providing a supportive learning environment.
This is an as-and-when role requiring a minimum of two days per week including occasional evenings and weekends. Travel across Essex is required.
Qualified instructors will be expected to achieve the 1st4sport Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training within 12 months (fully funded by ECC).
Key Responsibilities
Deliver training in line with National Standards and the Government-approved Bikeability scheme.
Ensure all on-road and off-road training meets Health & Safety requirements.
Work with children and adults in formal training settings.
Liaise with managers and other instructors to ensure sessions run as scheduled.
Maintain accurate administrative records including risk assessments attendance and client data.
Demonstrate professionalism reliability and good timekeeping.
Engage in training and adopt new technologies introduced by ECC and The Bikeability Trust.
Requirements
Passionate about cycling and working with people especially children.
Regular competent cyclist.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Confident using IT including Word and Excel.
Able to work with minimum supervision.
Fit to undertake training duties and supervise children.
Ideally holds a First Aid qualification.
Owns or has access to a smartphone.
We are currently recruiting for Cycle Training Instructors both qualified and unqualified to cover training in the following locations throughout Essex:
- Clacton
- Harwich
- Harlow
- Uttlesford
- Epping
- Basildon
- Chelmsford
- Braintree
