The Planner will be responsible for developing maintaining and monitoring project schedules for rail infrastructure projects. The role ensures that programmes are realistic aligned with delivery requirements and provide clear visibility of progress risks and opportunities.
The Planner will work closely with project managers engineers and delivery teams to support effective planning reporting and project control across the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Development
Develop detailed project programmes from concept through to delivery.
Produce baseline schedules using planning software such as Primavera P6 .
Build logic-linked programmes including key rail project milestones.
Ensure programmes comply with contract requirements and project delivery strategy.
Project Monitoring & Control
Monitor project progress against the baseline programme.
Update schedules regularly to reflect actual progress and forecast completion.
Identify delays risks and critical path impacts.
Provide mitigation strategies and recovery plans where required.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Work closely with Project Managers Engineers and Commercial Teams to ensure programmes reflect project scope and delivery constraints.
Support coordination between design procurement construction and commissioning activities.
Participate in planning meetings and project reviews.
Reporting
Produce regular planning reports including:
Critical path analysis
Progress updates
Programme narratives
Delay analysis
Provide clear visual reporting to project teams and senior stakeholders.
Rail Environment Compliance
Ensure programmes align with rail industry constraints including:
Possessions
Access planning
Safety requirements
Integration with operational railway activities.

Required Skills & Experience
Essential
Experience working as a Planner or Project Planner within the rail sector.
Strong knowledge of planning techniques and scheduling principles.
Proficiency with Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
Experience developing and managing logic-linked programmes.
Ability to analyse programme data and identify schedule risks.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
