A vacancy has arisen for a WO/MAcr (Any Profession) to serve as WO Youth STEM (YS) at RAFC Cranwell on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS) with an initial proposed start date of 24 August 2026 (or earlier/later subject to candidate status).
The intent of the RAF YS team is to inform inspire and enable young people to study STEM subjects through the delivery of a free curriculum mapped STEM engagement programme. Coupled with this is the promotion of careers awareness to help young people start to understand the breadth of opportunities available to them if they study STEM subjects including those in the RAF.
WO YS responsibilities include;
- Lead and co-ordinate the RAF YS Ops Team (2 FS and 1 Chf Tech) in delivery of the in-year RAF YS National Programme.
- Provide direction and oversight for STEM engagement events with external agencies education and delivery partners.
- Support SO1 and SO2 RAF YS in development of RAF YS Policy and Engagement and delivery of a pan-UK YS programme iaw Defence YS and RAF YS Strategies.
- Support SO1 and SO2 RAF YS in developing and building long-term sustainable relationships with key external organisations including Professional Engineering Institutions academic and educational institutions charities industry and benchmarking and research organisations.
- Widen participation by girls students from lower socio-economic backgrounds and ethnic minorities in STEM engagement and engineering focussed activity.
- Mentor and develop young people from schools cadets and other youth organisations who attend RAF YS sponsored events and courses.
- Assess and provide feedback on Silver and Gold CREST Award projects.
- Act as a judge for RAF STEM sponsored competitions and those run by external organisations.
- Develop new STEM activities and resources that are linked to the National Curriculum and Gatsby Benchmarks.
Normal working hours will be Monday to Friday 0800to 1700 although these hours will vary to meet specific needs and will include weekend engagements and overnight stops away from RAF Cranwell. There is the possibility of hybrid working.
