The Administration for Childrens Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized child care vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child juvenile justice ACS oversees detention placement and programs for youth in the community.
ACS Office of Agency Accountability (OAA) resides within the Commissioners Office to centralize the agencys internal oversight functions as well as supports management reforms. Within OAA Central Operations serves as the coordinating hub for strategic guidance and solutions to ensure ACS is improving the accountability structures of each division and the agency as a whole so complex initiatives move forward efficiently. Central Operations also helps shape long-term strategies to ensure the agency can achieve its mission with precision impact and accountability.
OAA is seeking one (1) highly motivated and detail-oriented Agency Accountability Undergraduate Intern to join our Central Operations team. As an Agency Accountability Intern you will support our OAA team in day-to-day operations and contribute to long-term projects aimed at improving the accountability structures of each ACS Division and the agency. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to various aspects of the agency to help shape long-term strategies to ensure ACS can achieve its mission. Additionally as a member of the 2026 ACS Summer Internship Program cohort you will participate in an enrichment program designed to fully engage students into the ACS and NYC government experience. Internship programming includes professional development workshops lunch and learns speaker events NYC government tours and networking opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Performance and Support
- Assist with cleaning and organizing data for performance tracking.
- Help maintain tracking spreadsheets for audit recommendations and/or reform initiatives.
Project Coordination Support
- Prepare meeting notes and action item summaries and draft follow-up emails and memos.
- Support compilation of cross-divisional updates into one centralized document.
Audit Preparation Support
- Assist with compiling documents requested for upcoming audits (contracts invoices payment records) and create document checklists to track outstanding items.
- Organize audit files and ensure file naming consistency.
- Cross reference documentation against audit request lists.
Learning Outcomes:
- Gain comprehensive knowledge of ACS operations in a high-level setting.
- Develop skills in collaborating across teams towards desired outcomes.
- Enhance abilities in coordinating and executing organizational tasks and events.

Qualifications :
As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program June - August each year.
