JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Instructional Coach - Secondary

POSITION SUMMARY: Works collaboratively with the teaching staff and administration to facilitate the use of best instructional practices in the classroom by strengthening classroom teachers understanding of content and effective teaching practices. Supports district level curriculum and instructional content and implementation of the curriculum. Position will focus primarily on secondary teacher and classroom needs.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent - Curriculum and Instruction

EXAMPLE (S) of WORK PERFORMED:

  • Observe teachers and facilitate discussions with teachers and administrators regarding the instructional methods and strategies which will most effectively address students needs.
  • Support administrators and teachers with data analysis to inform instruction.
  • Provide individual and/or group coaching and mentoring to facilitate the implementation of curriculum and the improvement of instructional practices.
  • Facilitate the improvement of teaching practices through data analysis targeted training and direct teacher support.
  • Support classroom instruction by assisting teachers with lesson planning.
  • Maintains coaching documentation to inform decision making.
  • Support Professional Learning Community and Data Team processes.
  • Collaborate with individual teachers through co-planning coaching and co-teaching.
  • Interpret the curriculum and teaching practices in terms of the goals of the Ritenour School District.
  • Assist teachers in making sure that they understand the alignment of curriculum with the content and concepts that students are expected to learn.
  • Review and interpret the curriculum components which need to be emphasized to address the students greatest needs.
  • Support curriculum development committee work based on the most current research and promising trends in education.
  • Writes and revise curriculum as needed.
  • Stay abreast of current research best practices and trends related to instruction.
  • Present and support professional development at the building and district level.
  • Coordinate and support organizations that partner with the Ritenour School District.
  • Serve as an instructional specialist and consultant to individual teachers and committees in the area of responsibility.
  • Assist with the integration of technology in the curriculum.
  • Perform other related work as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (*)

  • Requires daily attendance to perform duties.
  • Requires travel to work sites within the district.
  • Requires work beyond the school day.
  • Interprets test results; reviews and interprets printed reports to obtain information necessary for decision making planning and management in assigned area(s).
  • Utilizes classroom technology for communication and is familiar with up-to-date instructional technology.
  • Provides written procedures for plan preparation and implementation.
  • Discusses department goals with teachers administrators and/or citizens; conducts individual or group meetings.
  • Reviews published educational materials for selection purposes; implements and evaluates curriculum.

Physical Demands (Strength)

- Exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or

- Exerts 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or

- Exerts 10 to 20 pounds constantly.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Vocational Preparation: (Experience)


- At least five years of successful teaching experience
- Experience in development preparation and presentation of professional development preferred
- High School and/or middle school teaching experience preferred


Education Preparation: (
Formal and Informal)


- Masters degree preferred

- Teaching certification in the areas middle or high school level Mathematics or English Language Arts is required
