About the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design:
The creative heart of Drexel University the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design trains the next generation of scholars thinkers makers and doers in the fields of media entertainment design and the visual and performing arts. Westphal offers 18 undergraduate and nine graduate majors housed in award-winning facilities that encourage collaboration across creative disciplines. At Westphal we reimagine the role of design media and the arts in building a better future. Our programs challenge students to center sustainability access and equity in their approaches to art fashion architecture gaming entertainment and scholarship. Through experiential learning studio-based curriculum and Drexels widely-recognized Cooperative Education program (co-op) our students are uniquely positioned to face the worlds challenges and define the creative careers of the 21st century.
Job Overview
This is an adjunct position to direct the Drexel University Symphony Orchestra. This is a 55 75 auditioned symphony orchestra. Students are eligible for merit-based scholarships decided upon by the Director. There are weekly rehearsals followed by a concert at the end of fall winter and spring are once per week for 3 hours. There are additional duties associated with the inclusion of the orchestra within the greater Music Program and Department of Performing Arts.
Essential Functions
- Audition students for admittance into the orchestra and potentially for scholarship consideration.
- Program appropriate concert repertoire.
- Be a teacher be a conductor be an administrator.
- Work with department staff to coordinate concert publicity and production needs.
- Maintain the orchestra library.
- Work effectively and collaboratively with Music Program and Department of Performing Arts faculty and staff.
- Embrace the missions of the University College Department and Program.
- Foster a culture of inclusion.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a High School Diploma/GED; Bachelors Degree in Music strongly preferred.
- Orchestral conducting experience at any level.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
