Director of Labor & Delivery

Seattle WA Full-Time Senior Clinical Leadership Role

A leading flagship academic medical center in Seattle is seeking a Director of Labor & Delivery to lead one of the regions most respected and high-volume maternal care programs.

This is a high-visibility leadership opportunity for an experienced clinical leader passionate about advancing maternal and newborn care improving outcomes and inspiring multidisciplinary teams within a complex hospital environment.

The Director will oversee inpatient Labor & Delivery operations partnering with physician leaders executive leadership and interdisciplinary teams to drive quality safety operational performance and caregiver engagement.

What Youll Lead:

Clinical Excellence

  • Provide strategic leadership for Labor & Delivery services

  • Ensure delivery of safe evidence-based maternal care

  • Maintain compliance with regulatory professional and accreditation standards

Operational Performance

  • Oversee staffing models patient flow and care delivery

  • Manage operational performance across a high-acuity inpatient service

  • Align operational strategy with quality financial and patient experience goals

Quality & Outcomes

  • Develop performance metrics aligned with the Quadruple Aim

  • Drive improvements in:

    • maternal outcomes

    • patient experience

    • caregiver engagement

    • operational efficiency

Leadership & Culture

  • Lead and develop managers and frontline nurse leaders

  • Foster a culture of collaboration accountability and continuous improvement

  • Support caregiver engagement in a unionized healthcare environment

Physician Collaboration

  • Partner closely with OB physicians maternal-fetal medicine specialists and clinical leaders

  • Strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration and care coordination

Strategic Growth & Innovation

  • Implement process improvement initiatives

  • Leverage data technology and improvement methodologies to enhance care delivery

  • Support new service development and maternal care innovations

Program Highlights

  • 500550 births per month

  • 31 labor beds

  • 4 OB operating rooms

  • 9-bed OB emergency department

  • Level IV NICU support

  • Multidisciplinary teams including:

    • Maternal-Fetal Medicine

    • Midwifery

    • Obstetrics

    • Family Medicine

    • Residency programs

Additional services include addiction recovery support doulas and cultural navigator programs creating a highly integrated maternal care environment.

What You Bring:

Education

  • Masters degree in Nursing Healthcare Administration or Business Administration

  • Bachelors degree in Nursing (if masters is not in nursing)

  • Active RN license (or eligibility upon hire)

Experience

  • 5 years progressive healthcare leadership experience

  • Experience overseeing Labor & Delivery or perinatal services

  • Experience managing large clinical teams and complex operations

  • Experience working in unionized healthcare environments preferred

Leadership Skills

  • Strong financial and operational management

  • Experience managing budgets staffing and performance metrics

  • Expertise in process improvement methodologies (Lean Six Sigma etc.)

  • Ability to lead change initiatives in complex healthcare systems

  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills
