Job Title: SPEECH AND LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

POSITION SUMMARY

The position of Speech and Language Pathologist is to plan and implement speech and language services in conjunction with other educational services provided by the district. Work with school district staff to evaluate children for communication disorders involving articulation voice fluency and language impairments as referred by the district. Conduct hearing screenings. Develop and implement individualized programs to meet individual students needs to correct existing communication disorders. As necessary select programs and instruct students and/or staff in the use of augmentative communication devices. Consult and collaborate with teachers and parents regarding speech and language disabilities and services and related student activities. Maintain appropriate records and reports. This position does not supervise any employees and reports to the Director of Student Services or designee.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with school district staff to evaluate children for communication disorders involving articulation voice fluency and language impairments as referred by the district.
  • Plan and implement service delivery models including individual small group and classroom settings.
  • Create an environment and provide instruction which engages students and enhances learning.
  • Select programs and instruct students and/or staff in the use of augmentative communication devices as needed.
  • Complete IDEA paperwork required in specified time and manner for students on caseload. Implement curriculum to meet the needs of students Individualized Education Plan.
  • Implement a program approved classroom monitoring system i.e. providing an environment where students earn lagging skills with a particular focus on skills needed to be safe respectful and responsible.
  • Conduct hearing screenings.
  • Communicate expectations monitor and reinforce student behavior positively to facilitate learning.
  • Provide direct instruction assistance and professional guidance to classroom instructional staff and support staff.
  • Work with specialists to provide each student with a full range of needed services.
  • Maintain open communication with students parents and home school personnel by devising a regular system for communication.
  • Treat students with courtesy personal dignity confidentiality and advocate for their needs.
  • Maintain a weekly lesson plan schedule for students.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain consistent and predictable attendance to meet the requirements of the position.
  • Participate in various meetings for the purpose of receiving information or sharing information and expertise with students colleagues and parents/guardians
  • Confer regularly with immediate supervisor
  • Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience Required

  • A minimum of a Masters degree in Speech and Language Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders
  • Extensive knowledge and ability to fulfill IDEA requirements
  • Knowledge of and experience working with students with developmental disabilities
  • Knowledge and training in Special Education law and best practice
  • Understanding of grade-level content standards and how to incorporate them within a comprehensive program

  • Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students staff or district patrons;ability to maintain accurate and complete records
  • Skillfully manage individual group and organizational interactions
  • General computer skills including but not limited to Google and word-processing skills

Abilities

  • Demonstrate command or oral and written English language and communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to effectively work and communicate with students parents and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English Spanish or other languages related to the job
  • Ability to relate to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective program;
  • Ability to work affably with co-workers
  • Ability to complete paperwork accurately verify and correctly enter data
  • Ability to avert problem situations and intervene to resolve conflicts
  • Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior speech and dress in a neat clean and appropriate professional manner for the assignment and work setting

Licenses Certifications Bonding and or Testing Required

  • Holds a current Speech and Language Pathologist License ASHA Certification preferred
  • A valid drivers license and reliable transportation for on the job travel

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position the employee may be required to physically interact with students who are aggressive emotional and/or unpredictable in their reactions. The employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but occasionally may be very loud. The work environment may be fast paced and emotionally demanding.
