The AR/VR Systems Engineer will lead the development of an advanced Augmented Reality (AR) situational awareness system for automotive applications. This role merges expertise across 3D rendering computer vision AR device geometry and cloud based AR content delivery supporting all tasks outlined in the SODW-including 3D representation evaluation depth estimation precise AR rendering and connected AR experiences.

Required Technical Skills

Strong background in 3D graphics: OpenGL Vulkan Unity Unreal CUDA compute shaders.

Deep understanding of 3D data structures: Point Cloud Mesh NeRF 3D Gaussian Splatting.

Computer vision expertise: OpenCV SLAM/VIO monocular/stereo depth nets PyTorch/TensorFlow (Preferred).

Experience with AR SDKs (ARCore ARKit OpenXR) and AR device calibration.

Backend/cloud development using Python Go REST gRPC WebSockets.

Familiarity with automotive sensors GPS IMU and HD maps.

Analyse AR HUD or wearable AR device optical geometry field of view (FOV) and eye box constraints.

Model human eye positions and develop 3D geometric alignment methods.

Build calibration procedures and demos showcasing visibility boundaries.

. 3D AR Content Rendering Development

Develop and optimize rendering pipelines using 3D representations such as Point Clouds Meshes 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) and NeRF.

Evaluate performance for automotive AR targets (e.g. 1080p @ 30 FPS).

Compare computational and communication costs and recommend the best representation format.

Precise 3D Content Placement in Real World View

Implement algorithms to compute object depth and 3D world location using:

o Camera detections

o High-definition maps

o Depth sensors

Ensure AR elements are rendered at correct 3D positions and orientations within the users FOV.

Connected AR Experience & Cloud Integration

Develop a proof of concept Edge/Cloud service to respond with 3D AR content based on current vehicle context (GPS camera).

Handle metadata-driven 3D asset placement in real time AR views.

Optimize communication overhead for streaming 3D content.

System Integration & Technical Delivery

Integrate cloud perception and rendering components into a unified AR system.

Support device level testing (AR HUDs or wearable AR devices).

Deliver demos software builds source code and documentation according to GM expectations.
