Position: Certified Home Health / Hospice Aide (CHHA)
Position Summary
The Certified Home Health / Hospice Aide (CHHA) works under the supervision of an RN or therapist providing personal care services to support patient comfort and independence. The CHHA documents patient observations reports changes promptly and supports continuity and safety in patient care.
This role does not include any duties considered nursing practice per state Nurse Practice Act (e.g. administering medication taking orders sterile procedures).
Required Certifications & Licensure
Active Certified Home Health Aide (CHHA) certification in California in good standing
Current BLS certification
Registered on the Home Care Aide Registry (CA DSS Home Care Services Bureau)
Valid drivers license and insured reliable vehicle
Required Skills & Experience
Experience providing personal care in Home Health and/or Hospice
Ability to work independently in the field and maintain professionalism in patient homes
Strong interpersonal communication and documentation skills
Demonstrated competency with equipment and technology used for patient care
Knowledge of infection control protocols
Ability to work with diverse patient populations
Must demonstrate empathy calm demeanor and comfort supporting the terminally ill
Hospice-specific training requirement:
Minimum 75 hours classroom and supervised practical training
Minimum 16 hours classroom and 16 hours mandatory practical training
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent required
