The Systems Engineer II provides advanced technical expertise in the design development implementation and maintenance of DCUs clinical trial and data systems. The role collaborates with leadership investigators and IS staff to understand complex requirements and optimize solutions for reliability performance security and maintainability. Responsibilities system development modification of existing software evaluation of emerging technologies and serving as an internal technical consultant. The position also mentors and trains IS personnel. This advanced role requires strong problem-solving and communication skills and offers opportunities for technical leadership and growth.
Job Duties:
30% System Design and Development
Engages in technical problem resolution system and component design maintenance and performance optimization related to the WebDCU system. This includes oversight of coding programs database change documentation and system development and maintenance.
Research new technologies and applications relevant to DCU needs and evaluates their applicability to existing and future systems.
Modifies complex existing software databases and server environments to correct errors adapt to new requirements and improve performance.
Plans and develops solutions by balancing functionality flexibility and generalizability of system functions across different types of projects while promoting component reuse and adherence to DCU standards and procedures.
30% Collaboration and Technical Consultation
Collaborates with DCU leadership and external investigators to understand individual project needs including highly complex technology and system requirements.
Optimizes technical approaches used to support users with consideration of data quality data security system reliability performance requirements user interfaces and maintenance constraints.
30% Independent Research and Implementation
Performs independent research design development testing implementation and maintenance of an upgraded version of DCUs clinical trial management system .
Documents all developed software and related system components according to the standards and guidelines established by the DCU IS section.
Acts as an internal technical consultant and advisor for DCU providing guidance functionality system performance integration and maintainability.
10% Training and Mentorship
Participates in the interview and selection of new IS personnel.
Participates in training for new employees on IS section standards standard operating procedures and system development methodologies.
Provides guidance and answers questions for new employees serving as a mentor and technical resource.
MUSC Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:
A bachelors degree in computer science or related field and three years experience in computer system development and modification. Relevant experience may be substituted for bachelors degree on a year-for-year basis.
