SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT
Under the general direction of the School Nurse (RN) this position provides health room support by administering first aid to students maintaining the health room office files and supplies and assist the school nurse with a variety of health room activities. This positions primary responsibility is assisting the RN in implementing school health services. This position receives direct and indirect supervision and delegation from the building RN regarding health care issues (Nurse Practice Act RCW 18.79 and 18.130 WAC 246-840) and receives direction from the building principal on issues other than health. This position works with students from a variety of medical needs from diverse multicultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assist RN in implementing school health services
Responsible for maintaining the health room: secure and prepare the health room
Maintain student school health records
Explain documents and requirements and answers procedural inquiries to families staff and students
Maintain and retrieve a variety of health files logs and other records/documents (computer and hard copy including confidential files) to ensure accurate up-to-date information is available
Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regular work hours
Administer medication and implement health care plans as directed by RN
Supervise and correct students as necessary to maintain a safe environment
Maintain inventory of supplies and materials (including first aid kits for building use); order new supplies as needed
Assist the school nurse with scheduling and performing health screenings document results administer first aid in accordance with District policy; conduct preliminary evaluation of all students and refer to nurse as appropriate
Notify school nurse and principal of severe injuries illness unexcused absences or unusual incidents
Follow state guidelines in the Infectious Disease Control Manual.
Notify principal and school nurse and/or school counselor of suspected child abuse
Provide information on child abuse cases as requested
Implement the immunization procedures including immunization form review parent notification updates and parental information requests regarding immunization requests regarding immunization policies
Assist in maintaining a neat clean and orderly health room
Professionally interact with students staff and public
Attend meetings and trainings as required
Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
High school diploma or its recognized equivalent (GED)
Six (6) months experience working with children or young adults
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability to accurately and proficiently keyboard and utilize standard office software programs
Ability to perform basic clerical tasks such as filing and use of office equipment such as personal computer telephone fax and photocopy machine and audio-visual equipment
Ability to take initiative and work independently within established guidelines
Ability to supervise elementary middle and high school students in large and small groups
Ability to listen and respond appropriately to student needs
Ability to work with students from a variety of multicultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
Ability to make sound judgments in emergency or crisis situations and ability to integrate medical behavioral and student/staff crisis interventions
Ability to learn skills of verbal de-escalation restraint techniques and behavior management
Ability and willingness to perform delegated medical tasks as instructed and delegated by RN such as catheterization tube feeding blood glucose and insulin monitoring etc.
Ability to work under pressure meet strict deadlines and maintain established time schedules
Ability to communicate effectively in a courteous and professional manner with all levels of staff and community members strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to learn and apply District policies and procedures
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Must be organized and dependable
Knowledge and application of FERPA and HIPPA laws regarding medical information and confidentiality laws pertaining to the administration of oral medication communicable diseases immunizations district health services policies and procedures and familiarity with medical terminology

WORKING CONDITIONS
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is confined to a work area; required to have precise control of fingers and hand movements; experiences constant interruptions and inflexible deadlines; and must be able to stoop crouch crawl bend kneel stand for periods of time and lift in order to assist a student with personal care. The employee is required to deal with distraught and/or angry persons and is exposed to infectious diseases carried by children. The noise level in the work environment is acceptable to this particular environment and can vary depending upon daily activity but will remain within acceptable ranges.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Employment with Clover Park School District is conditional pending completion of a Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint background check as required by RCW28A.400.303. (NOTE: All associated background check fees are the employees responsibility.) The fingerprint scan must be completed prior to the first day of employment.
