Job Summary

The Coordinator of Operations is responsible for the planning and coordination of activities in the Yangambi particular:

  • Responsible for the coordination and proper execution of activities in accordance with the strategic objectives set and the commitments made to donors.
  • Ensures the scientific quality of the pilots and the publications developed by the field teams and supports the scaling up of results.
  • Contributes to fundraising activities to ensure adequate funding for the landscape in collaboration with the Resources Mobilization team at HQ.
  • Ensures the compliance and relevance of the reporting with regard to donors and the results of the monitoring evaluation and capitalization processes.
  • Contributes to the risk analysis in collaboration with the landscape director and deputy the coordinators of thematic activities and value-chains and the security officers.
  • Ensures that the risks and opportunities that arise in the landscape are identified analysed and dealt with appropriately.
  • Ensures that social and environmental sustainability is systematically integrated into the design and implementation of CIFORs interventions in the landscape.
  • Assume the leadership of the coordination of the Yangambi landscape operations.
  • Provide leadership and coordination to the sector or thematic managers finance logistics and security managers.
  • Ensure the annual and mid-term review of annual operational plans and related budgets.
  • Identify research and development needs and challenges ensure their implementation.
  • Support the landscape director and deputy to liaise with donors and networks for the implementation of projects/programmes.
  • Ensure the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure that activities carried out in the landscape are in full compliance with CIFOR-ICRAF donor policies as well as national legislation.
  • Ensure regular dialogue and good collaboration with relevant provincial and local authorities to ensure the proper implementation of activities.
  • In consultation with the director deputy and the communication officers ensure the proper implementation of the communication strategy in the landscape and at the national level.
  • In consultation with the DRC Country Coordinator strengthen and enforce CIFOR-ICRAFs anti-fraud anti-corruption and anti-harassment practices.

  • Other Duties:
  • As they may be requested by the nature of the landscape intervention modifications of the organogram or modified priorities of donors and partners.



Required Skills:

Masters degree in natural resource management environmental or conservation management development project management or related fields (PhD an advantage). Professional experience of at least 6 years including 3 years in the management of multidisciplinary and multicultural activities and teams and within international organizations with a main focus on natural resource management. Professional experience in a rural area in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is mandatory (experience in the Province of Tshopo or the Yangambi landscape is an advantage). Proven in-depth understanding of the DRCs socio-economic natural resource management and rural development issues. Understanding of institutional issues including development partnerships fund-raising and donor strategies. Good knowledge of monitoring and evaluation systems.
