Duties and Responsibilities:

1. *Serves as the Educational Specialist of the Cancer Research Training (CRT) program at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center (UHCC); work closely and under the direction of the Associate Director for CRT.
2. *Manages all education and training activities at UHCC to maintain continuous development of the Cancer Research Enhancement and Training and related activities as dictated for National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Cancer Centers.
3. *Develops and coordinates education-related grant submissions such as T32 and R25 type National Institutes of Health (NIH) proposals. Serves as key liaison between UH leadership Cancer Center Education committee mentors and trainees.
4. *Coordinates integrates and monitors education training strategic planning and career enhancement efforts at the UHCC in collaboration with the Education Committee.
5. *Collaborates with the Deputy Director and the Chair of the Education Committee in writing and submission or educational grants for cancer center.
6. *Prepares and writes annual progress reports to the NCI under the direction of the Center Deputy Director and the Education Committee.
7. *Manages and provides overall coordination of the Summer Internship Program for high school and undergraduate students including recruitment selection placement with mentors curriculum development organization of lab safety and human subjects training arranging final poster session and program evaluation.
8. *Coordinates with UHCC HR in the hiring effort for the Summer internship program.
9. *Organizes the trainee monthly forum for career development and supports trainee- sponsored seminars.
10. *Maintains database for follow-up of trainees and evaluation of UH trainee outcomes.
11. *Tracks all student interns graduate students postdoctoral fellows and other trainees for success and prepares evaluation reports.
12. *Maintains relations with the Community Outreach Office and Shared Resources and community organizations to allow collaborations and outreach.
13. *Develops recommends and executes plans to build more effective research collaborations among the various UHCC programs including JABSOM outside entities and local schools to deepen a sense of community and to educate on the Cancer Centers Cancer Research Enhancement and Training related activities.
14. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:


1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Public Health Health Sciences Social Sciences Education or related field and three years (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities in program administration of research or educational activities or any equivalent combination of education and/ or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
2. Considerable working knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the area of office management and/or administrative duties as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts principles and methodologies.
3. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws rules regulations and theories and systems associated with project management public relations office management and/or administrative duties.
4. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective innovative and timely manner.
5. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team leaders and members and individuals.
7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing and data base applications.
8. If applicable for supervisory work demonstrated ability to lead subordinates manage work priorities and projects and manage employee relations.

Supplemental Minimum Qualifications:

1. Detail- oriented with the ability to plan organize and work on multiple projects and report to multiple people simultaneously.
2. Able to work independently make effective timely decisions and meet deadlines in a dynamic and ever-changing environment.
3. Ability to maintain confidentiality and to use discretion when responding to inquiries.
4. Ability to exercise judgment tact patience and discretion in applying and explaining policies and procedures.
5. Demonstrated expertise in managing programs evaluation research and producing comprehensive reports.

Desirable Qualifications:

1. Previous experience working in a health-related organization or in an academic setting involving training activities at different levels
