System Administrator (Linux / Infrastructure)
About the Role
We are looking for a System Administrator to support IT solutions developed for the European Commission DG JRC. The role contributes to systems supporting the EU Common Fisheries Policy including platforms used to collect process and manage fisheries data from EU Member States.
You will work within an international ICT team to ensure the reliability security and performance of the projects infrastructure and applications.
Your Responsibilities
- Install configure and maintain Linux servers and Windows workstations
- Perform system patching and operating system upgrades
- Manage Docker-based container environments
- Administer systems supporting databases web applications and data collection
- Monitor system logs performance and storage
- Manage backup and restore operations
- Provide 1st and 2nd level support to users
- Develop basic automation scripts
- Maintain technical documentation and asset inventory
- Collaborate with developers ICT teams and project stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with security policies and procedures
Your Profile
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Linux system administration
- Experience with container technologies (Docker / Kubernetes)
- Experience with Windows system administration
- Experience with scripting (Bash)
Technical Skills
- Ubuntu Linux
- Docker / container management
- PostgreSQL
- Web servers (Apache)
- Monitoring tools
- Backup and restore practices
- Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP)
- Basic automation and configuration tools (e.g. Ansible)
Nice to have:
Education & Certifications
- Bachelors degree
- ITIL certification
Soft Skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work in international and multicultural environments
- Team player with good communication skills
- Ability to work in English (Italian is an advantage)
- High level of integrity and discretion
