Job Summary

Summary Sets up and operates manual and automatic drills notchers and deburring equipment to perform all operations required to drill single or multiple holes in parts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Set up and operate automatic drills to drill single or multiple holes in parts as specified on blue prints. Traverse and speed are specified. Select and install proper pilots for holding and centering parts. Adjust drill heads and air operated holding devices. Set up proper positioning fixtures. Change drills. Adjust equipment and chutes as required to meet specifications. Load work chute by hand.
  • Set up and operate single and multiple-spindle bench drill presses to drill holes in parts as specified on blue prints. Use clamps and blocking to position and hold work. Use drill jigs when unusual accuracy is required. Drills are prescribed.
  • Set up and operate notching equipment adjusting as required in blueprint.
  • Deburr work as required.
  • Make fixed gauge and visual check of first piece and subsequent periodic checks on work to minimize spoilage.
  • Make routine machine checks on all equipment periodically or as required to insure proper functioning such as checking coolant level hydraulic oil level and greasing checks. Detect faulty operations or defective material. Report all unusual conditions to supervisor
  • Work from blueprints
  • Perform daily inspections on equipment
  • Perform preventive maintenance per instructions for machine
  • Record required information either in written or electronic form pertinent to production quality and time records.
  • Perform any other job-related duties per direction of supervisor or lead person.
  • Follow all safety and housekeeping rules policies and procedures.

Education and/or Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

Work Keys Reading for Information - Level 3 reading materials include basic company policies procedures and announcements. They are short and simple with no extra information. Employees read the materials to find out what they should do. All the information they need is stated clearly and directly using easy words and straightforward sentences.

Mathematical Skills Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Work Keys for Applied Mathematics Level 3 problems can easily be translated from a word problem to a math equation. All the needed information is presented in a logical order and there is no extra information given.

Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Work Keys Locating Information Level 3 workplace graphics are elementary. They may be simple order forms bar graphs tables flowcharts maps instrument gauges or floor plans. At level 3 employees use one graphic at a time.

Work Keys Observation at Level 3 employees watch a straightforward procedure and remember it. The task is performed at a slow pace generally under the employees control and in a routine predictable manner. There are no extra details or distractions. Obvious hints or reminders prompt employees that the task needs to be done how and when it should be completed and whether it is done correctly.
