Electrochemical advanced oxidation processes can be used to treat high-strength refractory organics in wastewater. However different toxic chlorinated byproducts are formed after the application of electrochemical methods for the treatment of wastewaters with high chloride concentrations. These byproducts limit the application of this technology. Therefore the NSI group is interested in the application of bioprocesses for the treatment of these byproducts in wastewaters.
Among different techniques dissimilatory biological removal of chlorinated byproducts appears as an interesting bioprocess. Opposite to other methods this process eliminates the byproducts through its biological conversion rendering it a viable option for high loads. Your goal
The goal of this internship is to implement and research the dissimilatory bioprocess in the NSI group laboratories located in Doetinchem. During this internship you will monitor the bioprocess and conduct batch tests to determine parameters that will be used in further steps for the implementation of the technology in large-scale applications.
What will you be doing We have listed it for you:
You will be responsible for the operation of a bench-scale bioreactor
You will conduct batch tests to determine the effect of different parameters
You work on research that will bring innovative solutions to the market.
Who are you
Enrolled in a Dutch BSc or MSc Chemical (Bio) Process Civil or Environmental Engineering study.
Available for an internship for a minimal period of 4 months.
Flexible and independent.
Curious and analytical.
Professional command of the English language in words and writing.
Working for us means
An internship allowance of 350- per month based on full-time employment.
Possibility of a contract after your graduation.
A buddy who will show you around in our organization.
Reimbursement of travel expenses of 0.23 cents per km up to a maximum of 75 km if you live further than 10 km from our office and do not have an Ov-card.
